While specific maximum use concentrations for this ingredient were not reported in CIR surveys, a related ingredient, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Flower Wax, had a reported maximum use concentration of 0.12% in lipstick. In vitro eye tolerance studies of this wax at concentrations exceeding 50% showed essentially no cytotoxicity. Importantly, the CIR report indicates that citrus flower and leaf ingredients, including CERA, do not appear to contain furocoumarins, which are compounds associated with phototoxicity.
