Functions as a thiol protease that specifically digests keratin proteins within the stratum corneum, enabling controlled enzymatic exfoliation. Simultaneously reduces inflammation by inhibiting NF-κB signaling pathways and decreasing synthesis of inflammatory mediators including prostaglandins and COX-2. Additionally supports wound healing through selective debridement activity and may help address hyperpigmentation by modulating tyrosinase enzyme function.
