Mechanism of Action
This ferment exerts its action through multi-faceted cellular pathways. It effectively improves the integrity of the extracellular matrix by promoting procollagen type-1 synthesis and secretion, while concurrently suppressing the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) and elastase, crucial for its anti-photoaging and anti-wrinkle effects. Inflammatory attenuation is achieved by upregulating photo-protective hemeoxygenase-1 and inhibiting pro-inflammatory cyclooxygenase-2. Additionally, it enhances skin barrier function and water retention by boosting the expression of key barrier components, including filaggrin, involucrin, loricurin, and SPTLC1, and further mitigates inflammation by reducing inflammatory chemokines (TARC) and suppressing pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, TNF-α) and nitric oxide production.

Key findings
- 01 In vitro studies using human keratinocyte (HaCaT) and human foreskin fibroblast (Hs68) skin cells evidenced its anti-photoaging potential through improved extracellular matrix integrity, enhanced procollagen type-1 synthesis and secretion, and suppression of MMP-1 and elastase expression. These studies also noted its ability to attenuate inflammatory responses.
- 02 Further in vitro research in HaCaT cells demonstrated upregulation of essential skin barrier components (filaggrin, involucrin, loricurin, SPTLC1) and inhibition of the inflammatory chemokine TARC. In LPS-induced RAW264.7 cells, it suppressed pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, TNF-α) and nitric oxide, indicating significant anti-atopic, barrier-strengthening, and moisturizing capabilities.
