Mechanism of Action
Sacran functions as a physical 'second skin' due to its massive molecular weight of approximately 29 million Daltons. Its high concentration of sulfate and carboxyl groups enables it to hold up to 6,000 times its weight in water—exceeding the capacity of hyaluronic acid by sixfold. Beyond moisture retention, it physically shields the epidermis from particulate pollution while suppressing pro-inflammatory cytokines and allergic mediators.

Key findings
- 01 Significant reduction in transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and barrier improvement in dry skin subjects at 0.1% concentration.
- 02 Suppression of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6) and chemokines (MCP-1) in skin models at 0.05%.
- 03 Noticeable improvement in itching and sleep quality for atopic dermatitis patients after 4 weeks of topical 0.05% application.

Dusting Analysis
Because Sacran is effective at exceptionally low concentrations (0.01%–0.1%), many brands include it at 'trace' amounts below 0.005% just for label claims. For clinical barrier repair and anti-inflammatory benefits, a minimum of 0.05% is recommended.
The Formula
Formulation
Stability
Thermally stable up to 85°C. Stability is enhanced when formulated with polyols like glycerin, which assist in the formation of its characteristic gel-film.
Synergies
- Glycerin
- Butylene Glycol
- Low molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid
Conflicts
- High concentrations of electrolytes/salts
- Strong cationic surfactants
