Mechanism of Action
This extract functions as a potent antioxidant by scavenging free radicals and reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, while simultaneously upregulating endogenous antioxidant enzymes like Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) and Catalase (CAT). Its wound-healing efficacy is driven by stimulating the proliferation and migration of both human dermal fibroblasts and keratinocytes. Additionally, it provides anti-inflammatory benefits by inhibiting TNF-α-induced hyperpermeability and exhibits antimicrobial and anti-sebum effects, potentially modulating sebum output.

Key findings
- 01 In vitro studies demonstrated a 209% increase in HaCaT cell migration at 50 µg/mL, significantly supporting wound healing.
- 02 At concentrations between 50 and 200 µg/mL, the extract dose-dependently increased H2O2-stimulated decreased SOD and CAT activities in Human Aortic Endothelial Cells (HAECs).
- 03 A concentration of 200 µg/mL significantly inhibited TNF-α-induced hyperpermeability and reduced increased ROS production in HAECs.
- 04 Maximum DPPH antioxidant inhibition was achieved at 50 µg/mL for stem extract and 80 µg/mL for leaf extract.
- 05 The extract did not cause significant cell death in HAECs across a range of 25–200 μg/mL.
