The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel concluded that there is insufficient data to determine the safety of Titanium Citrate for cosmetic use. In vitro studies on human erythrocytes revealed concerning dose-dependent adverse effects: slight deformation at 0.0005 mM, significant oxidative stress (decreased GSH, increased GSSG) and structural membrane defects from 0.001 mM, and observable hemolytic activity from 0.0025 mM. At higher concentrations (up to 0.8 mM), extensive cellular damage and intense hemolysis were noted. Patch testing on 45 patients suspected of titanium allergy showed one positive reaction (2.2%) to Titanium Citrate.
