Mechanism of Action
As a surfactant, TEA-LAUROYL/MYRISTOYL ASPARTATE operates by significantly lowering the surface tension within cosmetic formulations, thereby improving their consistency and spreadability. On the skin, it actively works to emulsify and lift dirt, sebum, and other impurities from the stratum corneum, facilitating their removal during cleansing. It also contributes to hair conditioning.

Stability
The ingredient is reported to maintain stability under typical formulation conditions.
Conflicts
- Formulations containing N-nitrosating agents are strictly contraindicated due to the potential formation of carcinogenic nitrosamines from secondary amine impurities.
- Direct contact with strong oxidants should be avoided, particularly in its solid form, to prevent exothermic reactions.
- Not recommended for children's products intended for direct, prolonged skin contact or for children's cleaning products such as shampoos, due to specific regulatory restrictions.
Safety
Safety Profile
The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel has deemed TEA-LAUROYL/MYRISTOYL ASPARTATE safe for use in cosmetic formulations designed for brief, discontinuous contact followed by thorough rinsing. For products with prolonged skin contact, the total concentration of ethanolamines (including the TEA component) should not exceed 5%. Under EU regulations (EC) No 1223/2009, a maximum concentration of 2.5% (as triethanolamine) is permitted in leave-on products. Raw materials must adhere to strict purity standards, with a maximum secondary amine content of 0.5% and nitrosamine content not exceeding 50μg/kg, and packaging must be nitrite-free. Its use is prohibited in conjunction with N-nitrosating agents due to the risk of carcinogenic nitrosamine formation. This ingredient is also a restricted component in China's Safety and Technical Standards for Cosmetics (2015 Edition).
