- 01 Oral administration of 12g PABA daily was observed to significantly slow the progression of Peyronie's disease, though it did not reduce preexisting plaque. The efficacy for other conditions like scleroderma, male infertility, and vitiligo relies on older studies lacking rigorous controls and strong scientific backing.
- 02 PABA-terminated dendrimers, at concentrations above 20 μM, demonstrated enhanced scavenging of radicals and radical cations in vitro. They fully suppressed human melanoma cell line proliferation at 100 μM and reduced it between 20–100 μM. Safety Profile
PABA presents a high risk for adverse reactions, particularly in individuals with sensitive skin. It is frequently associated with allergic manifestations such as contact dermatitis, skin rashes, burning, stinging, and photosensitivity. Additional concerns include general skin irritation, dry skin, and potential yellow staining of clothing. Animal studies suggest that PABA may increase the risk of cellular UV damage and has been implicated in the emergence of skin cancer. Furthermore, some research indicates a potential to interfere with hormone function, disrupt thyroid activity, and elevate the risk of breast cancer. PABA has also been linked to increased hyperpigmentation and premature aging, mediated by the formation of free radicals upon sun exposure.
