Mechanism of Action
This complex extract functions synergistically, leveraging the distinct properties of its botanical constituents. Juniperus Communis Fruit Extract actively enhances proteasome activity and reduces lipofuscin accumulation in keratinocytes, contributing to improved skin brightness and diminished spots, while also offering antioxidant, astringent, and purifying actions. Rosmarinus Officinalis Extract provides robust antioxidant and anti-inflammatory support, alongside antibacterial and toning effects that may accelerate cellular renewal to mitigate acne. Salvia Officinalis Extract contributes anti-inflammatory, healing, and purifying benefits, particularly beneficial for soothing irritated and reddened skin. Together, these components work to protect, clarify, and balance the skin's complexion.

Stability
This botanical blend exhibits sensitivity to light and heat, factors known to degrade active components. Rosmarinus Officinalis components, such as carnosic acid, demonstrate greater stability in ethanol compared to water, with degradation rates escalating at higher temperatures. Rosemary extracts show considerable degradation of phenolic content and antioxidant activity when exposed to indirect daylight at room temperature. Sage extracts also vary in stability depending on the solvent; alcohol-based tinctures show instability due to diterpene decomposition, whereas oil-based oleolites are more stable.
Synergies
- Individual components are likely to offer synergistic effects, enhancing antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and purifying properties.
Conflicts
- High concentrations of juniper essential oils can induce skin irritation or sensitization.
- Potential fragrance allergens may be present in rosemary extract, posing a risk for sensitive individuals.
- Terpenes found in sage are recognized as potential sensitizers.
Safety
Safety Profile
The CIR Expert Panel found data insufficient to confirm the safety of Juniperus Communis Extract in cosmetic formulations. For Rosmarinus Officinalis, a majority of derivatives (10 ingredients) were deemed safe when formulated to be nonsensitizing. For Salvia Officinalis, six derivatives (primarily leaves and oil) were found safe, while six other derivatives (from whole plant, flowers, stems, roots) lacked sufficient dermal toxicity data. High concentrations of Juniperus Communis Fruit Oil can cause irritation or sensitization and should be avoided by pregnant or breastfeeding women due to potential uterine contractions. Terpenes in sage are also potential sensitizers.
