Stability
This ingredient's vibrant green fluorescence is highly pH-sensitive, exhibiting a significant 40% change between pH 6.6 and 8.5 (pKa approximately 7.3). For consistent product color, formulations are ideally kept outside this transition range. It remains stable under ambient conditions but requires protection from direct light and UV radiation. Decomposition occurs at temperatures exceeding 252-258.5 °C.
Conflicts
- strong oxidizers
- direct light irradiation
- UV-radiation/sunlight
Safety
Safety Profile
CI 59040 is permanently listed by the FDA as a color additive for externally applied drugs and cosmetics, strictly limited to a maximum concentration of 0.01% by weight of the finished product. The EU Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 permits its use in Annex IV as a colorant, subject to toxicological safety examination.
