Safety
Safety Profile
CI 47005 (D&C Yellow 10) is approved for cosmetic use by the US FDA, requiring certification, but is specifically not approved for use around the eyes. It is limited to 1% by weight in lip cosmetics. In the EU, it is permitted as a colorant under Annex IV of the Cosmetics Regulation, with a maximum on-head concentration of 0.5% in non-oxidative hair coloring products. While some reports suggest skin and eye irritation, the SCCS indicates limited evidence for this and no evidence of skin sensitization in available tests. Conflicting data exists regarding its potential as an endocrine disruptor, with some sources associating it with such activity, while others state it does not contain a disruptor at ≥ 0.1% and rigorous safety assessments consider these risks.
