The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel has not specifically assessed Cholesteryl Macadamiate. However, Cholesterol, a parent compound, was deemed safe for cosmetic use, with maximum concentrations up to 0.25% in non-spray face and neck preparations and moisturizers, and 3% in foundations. Its botanical analog, Phytosteryl Macadamiate, was also concluded safe by CIR at concentrations up to 8% in leave-on products and 1% in rinse-off formulations. Cholesteryl Macadamiate is recognized in the FDA Global Substance Registration System (GSRS).
